Your first week knocking in solar

A free 7-day practice plan for your first week knocking doors in solar: one piece of the door a day, out loud with a partner, and the rules to follow from your first knock.

By Damien Day · Updated October 2026

What should your first week knocking in solar be for?

Learning the words, out loud, until they're yours. The first week isn't for big numbers. It's for saying the door steps without the book, getting out of the car every shift, and following the door rules from your very first knock. Practice with a partner before and between shifts, one small piece a day.

What does a 7-day door practice plan look like?

One piece of the door a day, in the order you'll use it. You start with the knock and your name, then the first 30 seconds, the questions, booking a time, the objections, and finally full doors with a partner playing the homeowner. Each day ends with one clear check, so you know when you're ready for the next.

  1. Day 1: The knock. Name, company and badge in ten seconds.
  2. Day 2: The first 30 seconds. The bill question, up and down tones.
  3. Day 3: The questions. Six questions and qualifying, cold.
  4. Day 4: Booking. Every decision-maker, repeated back.
  5. Day 5: Objections. Four beats, every card.
  6. Day 6: A full door. Record it once, pick one fix.
  7. Day 7: Five full doors. Score yourself.

From Book 1's 7-day door plan. The printable version has each day's practice and its “done when” check.

What should a new solar setter track in week one?

Your own conversations: real exchanges at the door, not just knocks. Write down how many you had each day, and the objections you heard, in your own words. There are no targets here. The point is to see which step you need to practice next, not to compare yourself with anyone else.

Every shift: the 60-second rule

Park. Be out of the car within 60 seconds. Walk to the nearest house that isn't posted no-soliciting or on your do-not-knock list. Knock. More on the first seconds at the door: door to door sales: the first 30 seconds.

Rules from day one

Carry your solicitor permit if your town requires one, knock only in allowed hours, skip no-soliciting signs and do-not-knock lists, and never say or imply you're with the utility. Follow your company's approved scripts. Sales training only, not legal advice.

Free: the 10 objections you're hearing now, in a free cheat sheet. A short, true answer and a next step for each, plus a commission calculator.

Questions

Is the first-week plan free?

Yes. Enter your email and the printable one-page plan opens right away. You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time.

Do I need a partner?

It helps. Most days are practiced out loud with a partner playing the homeowner. On your own, say each step out loud and record yourself.

Where does the plan come from?

It's the 7-day door plan from Book 1, The Knock-to-Booked Playbook, with the 60-second rule from the book's opening chapter.

Do I need to finish the plan in exactly seven days?

No. The seven days are a practice order, not a deadline. If a day goes badly or the weather keeps you in, repeat that day before moving on. The point is to drill the opener, the questions and the handoff until they feel normal at the door.
